Friday November 11th, 2011 is the last day for students to apply for spring graduation without having to pay a fine. While this day may not be significant for most of the world, it’s a huge day for my friends and peers who are finally beginning to make decisions about what lies after college. For my 11-11-11, I want to do something a little bit more than just filming people at an event. I plan to interview a couple of my friends, as they fill out their applications for graduation. There are two important aspects to this project. I want to film the almost-graduates application as they fill it out. I also want to interview them, having them reflect on their favorite memories of college and what they are looking forward to next. My voice and questions will not be in the film; instead I hope to use some of the footage of the application completion process to move the video and questions along. And even though applications for graduation can be turned in any time before November 11th, I have a lot of lazy friends who procrastinate and have agreed to hold off until 11-11-11 to do their applications.
While this proposal is not a typical “day in the life” that the One Day team is hoping for, I think its an interesting (and hopefully strange) take on a day that marks an important milestone so many Pitt seniors.
Storyboard:Alternative Proposal:
If my first proposal is not acceptable project for 11-11-11, I would want to film the Veteran’s Day Parade downtown. I think it would be interesting to focus more on the people viewing the parade then the parade itself. I think the reactions of people would make for a more interesting video. When focusing on the parade, I would want to focus my shots on individual people (specifically veterans) in the parade.
I would plan to arrive downtown early so I would have a good view of the parade. I would also want to move alone Grant Street to get different views of the parade and film different people. Depending on the amount of people attending the parade, my mobility may be hindered by the crowds on Grant Street. However, I think the Veteran’s Day parade is a good topic for the One Day project.
