Final Revision of Final Project
As I mentioned in my previous proposal, the main theme of my final project will be the conflict and harmony of urban modernity and nature’s simplicity. There will be multiple “scenes” where I compare similar objects in a natural and urban setting. My final project will split the viewer’s screen in half, vertically, and each side will be devoted to either nature or urban. I have separated the rest of this proposal by each “scene,” seeing that each will be done somewhat separately and will use different techniques.
Scene 1: Doors
The first scene I want to show are two doors in front of what seems like a one coherent white background. However, click on one door and (using flash animation) the door will swing open and bring the viewer into a kitchen. My “nature” door will be wooden, rounded and have lots of ivy on it. Because ivy grows longer, I may make it continue to grow off the door and into my white background, but this will depend on the aesthetics of it when I begin to build my final project. The “city” door will straight and possibly an apartment door if I could ever find one I like. Either way, it will be extremely modern. As with everything in my project, clicking on one door will only move that side of the project forward.
Scene 2: Kitchens
My second scene will be of a kitchen. My nature kitchen will again be full of wood and will have odds and ends all throughout it. Basically, it will look lived in. Drawings on the cabinets, newspapers on the counter, that kind of thing. Everything will be made of wood and stone (opposed to stainless steel). The kitchen I have in mind for this has a stainless steel refrigerator, so I will have to Photoshop and less modern appliance in. I also want to have sound with the nature kitchen. It will of dinner being made, kids arguing, maybe a dog barking. Because I live in such a hectic household, I plan to make a short soundscape of my kitchen over Thanksgiving break. I do also babysit here in Pittsburgh, so I may record some of their kitchen to get the sounds of younger children. (My youngest sibling is 18). I have had a lot of trouble finding the perfect kitchen for my city side, but I know exactly what I’m looking for. I want something very minimalist with lots of stainless steel and straight lines. Because I have been unable to find what I’m looking for, I am going to begin to take small aspects of my “dream” kitchen and make it myself in Photoshop. In each of the scenes, one window will be illuminated much more than the others. If I cannot get this naturally, I will use Photoshop layer to manipulate the exposure to make this window seem brighter. Then, using Flash animation, I am going to zoom through each kitchen to that window to move on to the next scene.
Opposed to half-assing my entire proposal, I decided to hand in a complete proposal for the first two scenes and will finish it this week. Sorry, I've been sick and have two tests this week, yay!
