The main theme of my final project will be the conflict and harmony of urban modernity and nature’s simplicity. The “homepage” of my final project will be fairly simple: a white background with two doors that slowly grow larger from the center of the screen. On one side, there is a very modern door, one that could easily be found on a swanky city apartment. The other door, on the other side of the screen, is old, rustic and covered in vines. The each door can be clicked on and will allow my site visitors to explore the beauty of both city and nature. For the most part, my site will stay separated in half. When one clicks on the “city” door, the “nature” door stays on its half of the screen. However, when both are clicked on, the site will bring you to two similar images concurring with the themes. I am very interested in architecture and landscapes, so each comparison will be something along those lines.
Though this is susceptible to change, I think I would like my order to go something like this:
- Enter the front door into a kitchen
- City: everything stainless steel, straight clean lines
- Nature: as much wood as possible, lots of natural light
- Click on a window and go to the back garden
- City: on a roof top, everything in potted plants
- Nature: simple backyard garden
- Street view
- City: if possible, I would like it to take the viewer down the building’s side to the street view
- Nature: again if possible, allow the viewer along a (winding) path to a dirt road
- Video on street
- I want to types of cars driving by on each street. Sound will be important here and I also want my viewers “eyes” to follow the cars as they drive by
- Tall Structure
- This is going to be tentative, but if I can, I would love to have two structures (city: skyscraper – nature: rock formation/mountain/waterfall) that look very similar
- Once the viewer has gotten to this point on both the city and the countryside parts, the images will slowly move towards each other until they are juxtaposed on top of each other to form some image that is a city/nature hybrid. There will be another door, which will bring the viewers through a series of images and animation that combine natural and urban elements in the same setting
On the technical aspect of this project, I will be using Adobe Photoshop, Flash, and Soundbooth. I want to use Flash for a lot of animation (the doors swing open when they are clicked, then the kitchen zooms to a window and brings you outside to a garden, etc). Photoshop will play a key part in this, especially when it comes to my final “tall structures coming together as one” part. Also I’m not sure how many of these images I will be able to find naturally, so I may need to use Photoshop to combine elements. Soundbooth will be used to play both urban and country sound scapes. I’m not sure if I will have sound on every “scene” but it will play a key part is some of them.
Revision
I am finding that some of the images I want to use are more difficult to capture than I had originally hoped. To remedy this, I am going to take full advantage of Photoshop. Because I cannot find an “urban modern” kitchen I like, I will create one with a series of images that will combine the makings of a modern kitchen. This may be time consuming but know that I am more confident in my Photoshop skills; I know I can make it work. I also want to alter the images and videos and I show. They should look something like this: Outside Door, Kitchen, Hallway, Inside Door, Street View, City/Landscape
