Final Project Revision

For my final project in December, I would like to utilize most, if not all, of the skills I have attained over the course of the semester to make a media presentation that I thought would be unreachable in August. These skills include my photo, audio, and video editing as well as making Flash files (which I will learn over the next few weeks).

Looking at all the pictures I have taken the last few weeks, it is apparent that the subject of the media piece will be a church. However, I have only been able to take pictures of the outside of one church (St. Paul's in Pittsburgh). I would like to get pictures of different churches in the area so there is some diversity.

More specifically, I would like this project to be interactive, almost like a journey. I remember watching "The Flat" at the beginning of the year and loved the concept of putting the user into a different environment. I would like to do the same in this project using Flash animation and great audio.

Visually, I would like to highlight the beautiful architecture and artwork many churches have. Throughout the presentation, this ocular pleasure will be contrasting the eerie audio I plan on using. This white noise may be relaxing at first, but as the movie progresses it may be annoying or freaky as it will become more apparent. Hopefully, I trigger anxiety to the audience. I will distort specific parts of pictures at specific times to signal the user to advance by clicking on the distortion. This can be interpreted as ghosts or other supernatural beings in the building.

The user should be taken on an adventure around the church and surrounding area. Hopefully, I am able to get pictures of empty churches. I want the audience to navigate through the church and once they go up the the choir loft, music starts, and the church is full. The user may be able to navigate back down, but the people would be gone once he or she enters the main floor, leaving many questions to be asked.

Update

Given my inabilites at creating such a complex Flash piece, I have decided to make a simpler narrative. I have personally written text to go along with a short slideshow. The text consists of many stanzas of haikus that entail one's possible thoughts as he is strolling around the church.
