Day in a Life Script
BACKGROUND: This video will be created for the DAY IN A LIFE project. Basketball is a major part in my life, as for many people across the globe. In short, I plan to record myself shooting around at a park all day, demonstrating many basketball skills and the practice it takes to become a good basketball player. Please keep in mind that I will use superimposed video to represent time and diversity in basketball skills. This long description entails everything that will occur within all of these videos, but it will be shown simultaneously. I will also use superimposition to make the video strange in someway. Perhaps play a video of a basketball going through a hoop over and over while the main feature is played so that you hear the swish of the net while the video is being played.
INTRODUCTION - HILL BY TREES HALL, UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH - PREFERABLY A COLD, SUNNY DAY
PLAYER is running up a hill, dribbling a basketball. The camera is placed and aimed such that the viewer can see PLAYER emerge from the crest of the hill.
As PLAYER is coming over the hill he is running straight and dribbling the ball straight.
Once he is down the hill, however, he starts to zig-zag from one side of the sidewalk to the other. He executes crossover, between the legs, behind the back, and other "tricky" dribbles. He can also do any combination if he so chooses.
MAIN SCENES - OUTDOOR BASKETBALL COURT BY PITT’S FRAT ROW
As PLAYER enters the court, he is still running and dribbling and immediately starts his routine.
He starts with layups and Mikan drills (layups on each side continuously). Then he starts shooting jump shots from close and starts to move back from the basket until he gets behind the three point line.
Once this gets his blood and adrenaline flowing, he will start running jumpers, and one hand shots. Perhaps he can run some sprints as well, just to show his dedication.
After a while, PLAYER will use a phone to call or message TEAMMATE to join him on the court. While PLAYER is waiting, he is just shooting around. Once TEAMMATE arrives, he joins. After TEAMMATE is warmed up, the two will play each other one-on-one. This shall be a physical but friendly match up, only to improve both PLAYER’s and TEAMMATE’s skills. PLAYER should appear win because his passion is the centerpiece to our video.
Following one-on-one is H.O.R.S.E. or P.I.G. (any letter game in basketball) in which the players will attempt trick shots to have some fun. There may be a winner. There may not. It is not important.
After that friendly matchup, TEAMMATE leaves the court. However, PLAYER stays and keeps shooting. This video fades out, and the viewer is left watching the overlaying video of a ball going through the hoop again and again.
CONCLUDING NOTES:
Most people I see playing intramural ball seem to take up basketball as a hobby. I plan on making PLAYER into a very emotional, determined, and passionate player even in the most ordinary playground pickup activities. While he is shooting and playing with his friend, he may imagine himself playing in front of an arena crowd. What makes this strange, though, is that PLAYER and TEAMMATE may be a little too old to achieve their dreams of playing professional basketball. But the overlaying message is the same, if you have a passion for something, don’t be afraid to show it.
