eSports is a rising movement in the videogame community that has created a network of extremely competitive cyber athletes based around the world. Hardware corporations sponsor massive competitions between players year-round, holding tournaments and seasons similar to traditional sports. My video will emulate what a single day of a 'pro' gamer is like. The pro gamer has to keep himself fit, stay informed about changes in the metagame and of course, practice and compete.

To capture this lifestyle, I will start from a regular morning. The alarm goes off at 4:45 AM, the time the Korean international broadcast channel streams live games via the internet. Korea is currently the mecca of Stracraft II eSports, and the greatest most competitive players are there, even non-Koreans have moved to compete there. He makes himself breakfast, and watches the cast until about 8 AM, at which point he goes for a run. He returns from exercising, showers, makes breakfast, and starts with stretching and hand exercises before setting up to practice with online teammates.

As some of this will be stationary activity, I will keep the interest of the viewer by using numerous creative camera angles, and cuts to onscreen action. A lot of pro-gaming is just tapping clicking in a fast, nuanced fashion. To try and highlight this, I will use some sweeping shots and close-ups of physical action, though gamic action will be featured. I want to present pro gaming as something that is more complex than someone might initially believe from hearing the phrase "pro gaming".

Revision

For this video project, I will follow my girlfriend, an art student at CMU on a day of relaxed Sunday activities. I'm going to try and follow her during a regular day of activity without interrupting or directing the action too much, though there will be footage of her working on an art project, shopping, buying groceries, and going to Phipps Conservatory.

I'll open the video with Ann leaving her apartment and heading out into the world. I will use a freehand documentary approach in shooting and will put the camera down to get more solid angles whenever possible, though most of the shots will be at least partially tracking freehand style shots. The sequence of footage will show Ann leaving the apartment first, then walking to the car, and then driving to the grocery store. Ann and I are often together, so it will be hard for her to pretend that I'm not there and not talk to me. I will likely include some conversation that we have in the video, though it will be not interview style or structured.

Next I will follow Ann on a shopping trip and focus on her hands as she browses through the shop, sliding dresses and garments along the rows. Throughout this video, I will use diagetic sound and sync up cuts in such a way that the flow feels continuous rather than disjointed, but to fit the time, I will cut out repeated events, such as driving, paying cashiers, etc. I want to focus on what Ann is doing in these spaces, like looking at flora, planning and working on a large project, or just doing some ordinary consumption.

The shot sequence will arise from what I can capture on the day, I will try to shoot Ann behaving as she regularly does in an interesting manner that will give the viewer will have a feel for how she spends some of her free time. Following the shopping scenes, I will have some cuts of Ann working on some of her artwork, which is primarily performance based. These shots will not have interesting mise-en-scen, so I will try and stay focused on my subject rather than the space. Finally, Ann and I will go to Phipps conservatory for a little relaxation. I will focus on Ann observing plants from the side angle, so that I can better capture both her reactions, and the space of the conservatory itself.
