| A day in the life…such an interesting concept that sparks the curiosity of many individuals. A day in the life of the rich, the famous, the successful, the extraordinary--people want to know about the intimate details of their lives. But what about the ordinary, the mundane? What about everyday people excites us and encourages us to want to learn more?
We consider our ordinary peers to lead simple, uncomplicated lives, though even the most mundane tasks rarely lack complexity. To prove my point, I want to film one of my friends as she gets ready to go out on the weekend. This hours long process, from shower to finish product, proves my point exactly. Each step requires its own patience and precision, and the failure of one step delays the commencement of the next. I want to show her doing her hair, her makeup, picking out her clothes, and continuously abandoning previous progress, and patiently starting over yet again, her never-ending pursuit of that perfect look. |

In order to make the video strange, as in accordance with the theme of our class, I plan to first film her normally and sequentially, but then alter the effects of time. I want to show each process in its entirety, and then reverse the film, returning her to her original look. I want the entire video to alternate between raw, in-progress, and finished products, completely disregarding the constraints of time.
In doing so, I hope to highlight how a task as simple and mundane as getting ready can prove interesting. How each of our individual lives are worthy of a documentary. How truly interesting a day in the life can be. |
