Introduction:
Hi, my name is Angela Nelson, otherwise known as Wanda. I’m in the Composing Digital Media class, one of the few left after the first two weeks of weeding out. Today I plan to talk about what this class has taught me, where I’ve gone creatively, and what I hope to do with all that I’ve learned.
I am an English Writing and Studio Arts major, so needless to say, this class was extremely helpful, as neither department seems very interested in providing its students with real-world skills that can be used to get a job. It’s especially valuable because my Studio Arts training is very traditionally based, and this class has given me the opportunity to work with programs I might need to know when I get out into the job world. That’s why I decided to stay in this class and power on—because it is one of the few classes offered by the university that is applicable to the job market. It’s also allowed me to expand my artistic foundations so that I can use mixed media to create whatever project I want. It’s helped me a bit in connecting my writing with my projects. So much of college is about writing papers about things you don’t really care about, but the writing in this class was mostly focused on creating a product, explaining its procedures and goals so that you know what you have to do when you finally get out there to make it.
My most personal work in this class was probably my Day in the Life video. As someone who’s introverted, it was hard for me to think of something I’d want to film a day in the life of. However, with some brainstorming, I decided to turn to my writing. My fiction writing (and my art which is fueled by my writing) is my hobby, so I decided to film a day in the life of my characters, not so much how they function in their own world, but how they function in my world.
