Welcome to Wanda's Webpage. I am a senior at the University of Pittsburgh and a student in Professor Jamie Bianco's Composing Digital Media class. This website contains a compilation of work for said class.
Strange Photography Project
In this project, we were asked to take photos in hopes of making them strange, either using composition techniques in the actual picture-taking process (such as, in this photo, taking it from a low angle) or through Photoshop later on, by stretching, overlaying, playing with color, etc. This was our first attempt at making media, as Photoshop tends to be the easiest Adobe program to figure out. The topic of this semester's class has been "the strange", so it is incorporated into all of our projects.
Twitter Narratives
In this project, we were asked to extract sentences from the media we see around us-- TV, books, internet, etc-- in order to create a narrative. Each day we updated Twitter with our short narrative sentences, drawn from three source materials.
Website Design
Website design was the core foundation of this course, as it was through our website that we were able to publish all of our other media projects. I drew inspiration from color as well as neon signs for my own website.
Soundscape Project
For our soundscape project, we were expected to collect sounds from a certain place and piece it together in such a way that the audience would know what it might be like to be there. My soundscape project took place in a dog kennel where I often volunteer. Sound editing was done in Adobe Audition.
Note: For some reason it hasn't been playing in my Safari, but it has been working in Firefox.
A Day In the Life Video Project
This video project involved filming a day in the life of either a person or object or, in my case, figments of my imagination. As it concerned my art/writing creations, I have to admit I was rather attached to this video. All video editing was done in Adobe Premiere.
A Day On Earth: 11.11.11. Video Project
This project was more of a global project, which was to capture one day on earth on the day of November 11, 2011. I decided to attend an event promoting peace and unity in the city of Pittsburgh through meditation and a drumming ceremony. This was also edited in Adobe Audition and then uploaded onto the One Day on Earth website.
Flash Animation Project
This project's goal was mostly just to get us acquainted with the complicated layout of Adobe Flash, so that we could learn basic animation techniques. I decided to use Flash to create my final project, so this was a step-stone into that project.
Final Project
This project's goal was to create something that demonstrated the semester's topic of "the strange" using any of the media we learned in class. My project in particular used Flash and Photoshop to create a "Choose Your Own Adventure" type of narrative. Once again I drew my inspiration from neon signs and loud color, which has continued throughout the semester.
