Sound Narrative
Soundscape Narrative
For my sound narrative, I plan on going to the dog kennel where I volunteer walking dogs. There are a lot of noises going on, from the barking to the traffic to the people who roam around. I pick this place because it is somewhere that I go every week, and seems very familiar to me. It’s interesting to me how, because I go every week, the noises don’t even register anymore. It’s just background noise. However, some problems I may encounter could be the noise levels, as both the street and the kennels are very loud.
Revised Soundscape Narrative
For my soundscape, I plan on recording the sounds from the Animal Rescue League dog kennel on Hamilton and Fifth. I volunteer here every week, and as a dog lover, this place has become pretty important to me. It's also a unique place that only some have experienced, and fewer with regularity. Of course, the main problem is the inability to get the more subtle sounds, as the dog kennel can be very noisy. Especially since the dogs all bark when I go into any of the pens. Not only is it noisy in the kennel, but it's noisy out on the street walking the dogs as well. However, this noisiness isn't exactly a hindrance, because the noisiness is part of the environment. The dogs never get much quiet, and neither do the people working for the kennel. However, listening to the sounds that I got, I believe there are some small "surprises" that I can incorporate somehow into the design.
In regards to the strange, I would have to go into Audition and mess around with it in there, as there is nothing inherently strange or creepy about the dog kennels. However, messing around with pitch, levels, etc. could elicit ethereal noises. I'll have to figure out what I can do in Audition.
