I decided to visit the Warhol museum for inspiration for my final design project. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do for my final project until after I got back; however, I still plan on using some of Warhol's design techniques in my final. Here's what I found...
The first artistic piece I plan to use for inspiration for my final project design is Warhol's video "Chelsea Girls" that he shot with Nico. It seems simple- he just filmed Nico; however, the video turns distorted. The images are duplicated and highlighted in different colors. It's almost leaves you haunted or confused maybe. I plan on incorporating this into the clips I will film for my final.
I also hope that the concept Warhol's artwork, "Skull," will work its way into my project. It's a simple screen print: a purple table, purple wall, and a red skull sitting on the table. I like his play on colors because it offers another perspective, a way that the viewer wouldn't think to look before. It's crazy how a normal image can suddenly turn strange just with a play on colors.
The final design concept I plan on using in my project is the idea of layering and its effect. In one of Warhol's self-portraits (titled self-portrait), he layers the same transparent print of his face over top one another. I think I could include it into the horrific themed design concept of my final because it completely distorts the image into whatever you make of it.
