For my sound scape project, I am planning on recording the sound of the subway underneath the Steel Building in downtown Pittsburgh. It's extremely dark down there, but the conrete walls and tunnels will make for a good sound stage.
There are multiple sounds that I plan on capturing in order to compose and illustrate the surroundings. The main and most obvious sound is that of the subway train. I want to record the rumbling as it barrels through the tunnel towards the stop. Not only will I record the engine but also the screeching of its breaks as it haults to a stop.
Aside from recording the actual movement of the subway, I want to pick up the little sounds as well such as the doors opening. They make that sortof wooshing sound as if letting out air. They also squeak open and sound off a warning bell when they're about to close. Finally, I want to record people waiting for the subway and the messages that come over the speaker.
